We are an instructional academy that teaches our athletes more than just how to throw with “good mechanics”, We focus on developing your physical and mental abilities so that you can become the most successful baseball/softball player that you can be.  Our unique approach is designed with your development being the cornerstone of the program.

To be a complete baseball player you must be a highly efficient thrower, regardless of your position.  As Paul Nyman has said, “you can throw without pitching, but you can’t pitch without throwing.”  So unless you are a DH, you should maximize your ability to throw; pitchers and non-pitchers alike. Most programs/instructors out there focus only on mechanics (and “pitching mechanics” at that).  In reality, sound “throwing mechanics” are needed by every player at every position.  Efficient throwing is not dependent upon the position you play and thus should be learned by all players.

ATHLETIC THROWING PLUS PITCHING - EFFECTIVE VELOCITY

To become the most effective pitcher that you can be, you must understand how to keeps the hitters from hitting the ball hard.  If you know why the hitters are able to hit the ball hard, you can develop a plan for preventing it.  If you minimize the amount of times your opponent hits the ball hard, you increase your chances for success.

EV explains the how and why hitters get to 100% on-time contact and shows you what tools you need to prevent it, to keep them off-balance so they don’t hit it hard or hit it at all.  You will learn what to throw, where to throw it and most importantly when to throw it.

We’ve broken it all down to easy to understand, comprehensive lessons, so that you can begin this program whenever you are ready.  Each lesson builds upon the previous.  This is a competency based program; progress at your own pace. Each lesson will be introduced when appropriate. You will have time in each class to work on the skills taught in each lesson. You will be measured in each of these core skills regularly so that you know your EV abilities and potential for success on the mound.

You will be able to apply what you learn in each lesson immediately to your game.

More about EV

At its most fundamental level, Effective Velocity is applying Einstein's theory of relativity to the hitter on any given pitch.  True understanding of what effect each and every pitch has on the hitter will unlock any pitcher's potential.  Every pitch has a real velocity (what the radar gun says) and a perceived velocity based upon where it’s thrown.  Inside pitches appear faster than outside pitches.  High pitches appear faster than low pitches.  Knowing how to combine these factors to create “spreads” between your pitches that make it very difficult for the hitter to hit the ball hard is Effective Velocity.

The act of pitching has long been thought of as an art.  The very best have some special talent to be able to get hitters out.  They possess special abilities to know which pitch to throw when and where.  It’s something you either have or don’t have.  It can’t be taught.  How else do you explain someone with mediocre stuff, like Jamie Moyer, getting hitters out while someone like Kyle Farnsworth has struggled to be effective throughout his career despite having one of the best arms in the game?

Recent research by Perry Husband with the help of Inside Edge has uncovered the science behind the art. They analyzed 3 years of pitch data from the major leagues – every pitch to every hitter.  What they uncovered is nothing short of amazing.  This groundbreaking research has uncovered the formula for pitching success.  It’s not some special talent and it can be learned.

They proved the adage that “hitting is timing”; timing rules the at bat.  If the hitter is on-time, he will hit it hard.  If he isn’t, he won’t.  Therefore, the key to being a successful pitcher is keeping the hitters timing off – away from on-time contact.

They discovered the most effective way to keep hitters off balance and mistimed.  They have busted the myth of the perfect pitch.  Every pitch in every location has been hit hard and every pitch in every location has been missed.  This simply means that every pitch is a good pitch when thrown at the right time and every pitch is a bad pitch when thrown at the wrong time. That’s why sometimes when you hang that curveball it gets hammered and other times it doesn’t.  It’s all about timing.

Another key aspect they uncovered is that hitters are not as effective if they are reacting instead of acting.  When looking at more than a full season’s worth of data for major league hitters for 0-2 counts and 2-0 counts this becomes very clear.  The 2-0 count hitters are aggressive and attacking or acting because they know the pitcher has to throw a strike and have an idea of what is coming.  In the 0-2 count the hitter is purely reactionary; see the ball, hit the ball. On pitches in the center of the strike zone, hitters hit over 100 points lower when the count is 0-2 vs. 2-0.  This is huge!  The very same pitch in the very same spot is much more effective when the hitter is reacting instead of acting.

They also conducted studies over a 10 year period with hitters of all ages and skill levels to validate their theories.  They examined the hitter’s physical efficiency skills, reactionary skills, visual skills and game skills.  The result is Effective Velocity: The Science of Pitching.

In this course you will learn all about the theory and concepts of Effective Velocity.  You will get the opportunity to apply them as well through drills and specifically created bullpen sessions designed to develop your EV potential.  Become the pitcher that understands how to get hitters out and can execute it.
